Founded in the early 1980's, when the term Russian Cut still held sway among users of the finest diamonds, founder and president of Gem Source International, Sol Segall formulated and implemented the strategic business model his wholesale diamond concern would follow for the next twenty years.

Sol envisioned Gem Source as a specialist in the production of the finest quality round diamonds, designed for use in the manufacture of high-end jewelry.

Rather than compete with the large Belgian diamond houses, offering a diverse product line from melees to larger stones, fancy shapes and colors, clean and pique, produced in Israel, Thailand, China, and India, the company forged venture relations with, and invested in production facilities in Russia.
